How to find the Right Bra

I have recently found that most of my bras I currently own…I love wearing. Weird, right? And it got me thinking why do I love these bras? Why do they fit properply? And what made me buy them? So I thought I would share my bra-buying journey.

First thing, I asked to be measured, which is recommended every 6 months. And to tell you the truth my correct size was not what I thought I was. I always like to be measured before buying a bra, but it had been over a year. Many places offer measuing: Aerie, Victoria Secrets, and Nordstrom. And I know some people may find it awkward to have yourself measured, but in all honestly it takes 2 seconds. They measure you over your shirt and take 2 measurements: band and bust. The band measurement is just above your bust, right about where the straps meet the top of the cup. The bust measurement is at the fullest part of your bust.

Next, I took the time to try on multiple different styles of bras. Now most people may do this, but for me I am a creature of habit. I will buy the same thing if I like it and that is especially true for bras. But this time when I was looking the salesperson brought me a few other options and it got me thinking maybe my bra style choice was not the best for me? My advice is try as many different styles as you can because some days one style feels better than others.

Next, understand what your “sister size” is. This is something new to me and is very valuable to know. Sister sizes are groups of bra-size equivalents that are related by cup volume. And since everyone has varying breast shape, band size and cup size, that rarely means you fit one exact size. Understanding what sizes are equivalent for you can help you find a better fitting bra.

Finally, I also talked to my friends about what brassieres they were wearing. And that gave me some new options to try out. I discovered Savage by Fenty makes great bras. And I love the inclusivity of the brand. I recommend asking your friends what they are wearing. And to research other brands and see what is out there. There are so many options and for all body types now, that I think anyone should be able to find the perfect bra.

Other advice I have for your undergarment journey:

Replace your bras every 6 months, I know its annoying and pricey but it makes the world a difference.

Wash them in a bag on delicate and don’t dry them- makes them hold their shape and last longer.

Hook your bra together when washing – that way it doesn’t get tangled and all stretched out.

I hope this post helps you enjoy the bra buying process a bit more. Throughout the post are some helpful links to a better bra shopping experience. And let me know if you have any other advice!

NY Fashion Week Review

New York Fashion week has come and gone and boy did it bring some new and old styles I cannot wait to try!

First off the nostaglia for trends from the past is in full swing for the upcoming Fall season. I am a sucker for classic pieces in my wardrobe and love the modern twists there were at NYFW 2020.

  • Shearling on anything from coats to dresses- I’m sucker for this 70’s trend
  • Ponchos/capes are making a comeback and looking so chic- remind me of the 60’s and 70’s
  • Classic dress silhouettes – Bella Hadid in Marc Jacobs show this year is my PRIME example- its a modern take on Jackie O.

Next up sustainable fashion is making a huge splash this season and doesn’t seem to be slowing down for the Fall either. Upcycled material was everywhere. And if you don’t know what I mean by upcycled this is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products. Dr. Martens were up-cycled with Swarokvski crystals during a show for NYFW. Along with scraves and cashmere at Jonathan Cohen. This green trend is here to stay and I am looking forward to seeing how other brands try to incorporate it.

Plaid, Plaid, PLAID! I love a good plaid piece in my wardrobe and am loving the modern take on such a classic pattern with the 90’s grunge look. Designers such as Monse, R13 and Jonathan Cohen used plaids and even florals for a new punk-meets-modern chic that I cannot wait to wear.

And finally color! So much color and worn in so many different ways. I am loving the idea of a head-to-toe look, all in one tone. Marc Jacobs had some fabulous examples of this, even the tights matched. I also loved that there was a lot of bright color used for the Fall. It definitelly seems it will make the colder months a little warmer thi coming fall season.

Let me know what you were loving from NYFW this year. And follow me on instagram for more @good_land_kitty

January Favorites

Hello everyone! Didn’t January just fly by but also feel like it lasted for 6 months too? I know it did for me. I’m going to share a few of my favorite things over the past month for the post today.

Audible- I finally tried it after getting a 3-month subscription for Christmas and I am loving this for my commute. I feel so much more productive and it’s a nice way to kill time during my drive. I started listening to Mindhunter for my first book. I have watched the show and loved it and the book is very similar but also offers a ton of background detail. I’m looking for a new book for my next credit to use. If you have any suggestions let me know!

This comfy winter look, I’m wearing velvet joggers with a cropped gray hoodie. This has been my go to look when running errands or lounging at home. The hoodie is from Target and the pants I found at Nordstrom Rack 2 years ago. I’ll link the hoodie here and a similar style of jogger here.

This And other stories Alpaca Blend Puff Sleeve Cardigan is truly a winter staple in my wardrobe and I have been wearing it a lot this last month. It’s the perfect caramel color and is so soft and warm. You can dress it up or down, with a skirt or pants.

My new favorite jeans are these Topshop High Waist Raw Hem Straight Leg Jeans. I have another pair in black but they’re a cropped length instead and knew I wanted to try them in a darker blue wash. I will say that when you first get a pair of these they may feel very tight and rigged but over time they relax, but still keep their shape. I love wearing them with either boots or sneakers.

Finally, the Rodial Soft Focus Glow Drops which i received in my FabFitFun winter box has become a new beauty favorite. I’ve linked thee travel size verison here. You only need 1 to 2 drops and I like to use it as my primer. It creates a beautiful base for your makeup and helps to create a luminous, dewy glow. I do think the price is a bit high for the product but I am trying to find a good dupe for it. I’ll let you know if I do.

Those are my January favorites and I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know what you’re loving right now.

Are those leather pants?

Winter is upon us in the Midwest. Usually the snow holds off until mid November but this year it decided to come on Halloween. And most people were pretty bummed but the first snow always excites me. “Everything’s magical when its snows, everything looks pretty. The clothes are great. Coats, scarves, gloves, hats.” – Lorelai Gilmore

White sneakers are a perfect way to dress these down for an every day look.

That pretty much sums up my feelings on snow and like she said the clothes!! The first snow made me so excited for the opporunity to wear my new faux leather pants even more!

I found a pair at HM and unfortunately couldn’t find them on the website but I did find some other great options:

These pants are truly the warmest and comfiest pants I have ever owned. I have tried leather pants in the past but didn’t always love the fit and feel. Probably because they were more like a skinny pant style, but these… OMG SO PERFECT!! I love the jogger style because I can dress it up and down and really wear them for any occassion.

Here are a few examples of how I style my joggers for the winter season. Let me know what you think.

I love these pants with a classic, white button down shirt, a french tuck is a must!
Gold accessories look great with this look.
A cropped cardigan is another trend I am loving this season and it looks great with these pants!
Grey, crew neck cashmere sweater and these pants is perfect for any cold day.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m so excited to be writing and sharing my interests in fashion, makeup, food, home decor, and many more. I love sharing my tips and tricks with my friends and family and this blog is a perfect way to share them with everyone else. A little about myself, I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hence “The Good Land” in my blog name. To quote Alice Cooper in the 1992 Wayne’s World, “the name Milwaukee comes from the Algonquin word millioke, meaning “the good land.” The kitty part is a nickname that has stuck around since high school. And it perfectly embodies me. I am shy and cautious but also curious and spunky at times. I can also be just a little bit sassy like most cats are. And I’m always serving major cattitude. Yes, I said cattitude. It’s a feeling of prestige and sophistication without being conceited. Now back to the blog, I’m hoping to share information related to fashion, food, makeup, and home decor/organization I’ve always loved fashion and makeup and use it to express my personality and moods. I’m a huge foodie and come from a family that loves to cook. And my home is my sanctuary and I love for it to feel comfy and cozy. I’m also interested in how I can be more environmentally friendly in all these areas and allow for future generations to experience the good land. I’m hoping to share my tips for doing so and my journey to understand what more I can do. Welcome to my blog and I hope you all enjoy!
